5 Steps to Smoother Routines
A routine is something you create to simplify your day, which will free up brain space for curing cancer or ending world hunger or reading a book, rather than digging frantically through a pile of clothes to find a pair of clean socks.
1. Define the goal:
“I want the kids out the door in the morning with 80% less stress.” “I want to create a meal/grocery plan to make meals 80% less hassle.” 2. Name the roadblocks: “Kids can’t find their things, don’t get up on time, didn’t finish homework.” "I don’t know what to cook, don’t have ingredients, hate grocery shopping, hate cooking.” 3. List the ideal for each roadblock: “Kids can’t find their things” = every item has a home; kids put away and retrieve own items. “Don’t know what to cook” = list of simple recipes that everyone likes. 4. Set a tasklist and timeframe for each roadblock: “Every item has a home; kids put away and retrieve own items” = a.) Determine where each item belongs. b.) Kids put things away right when they come in the door. (Yes, you will have to remind them over and over and over.) “List of simple recipes that we like” = gather recipes for the week and print them out Sunday evening. 5. Print out routine plan and post it where it will remind you. |
